Your reading stays with you
For young readers
You can read, choose quiz answers, practice memory verses, and discuss a lesson with a trusted adult. You do not need to share your name, birthday, email, address, photos, or messages.
Your lesson checkmarks stay in this browser. There is no chat, public profile, or group sharing here. If something worries you, talk to a trusted adult.
Age ranges and study spaces
The welcome screen has no preselected age. The saved ranges are Under 9, 9–12, 13–15, 16–17, and 18 and over. The intended audiences are ages 9–12, 13–15, 16–17, and adults. Younger visitors can still use protected lessons with an adult. No birthday is requested.
Before an age range is selected, ordinary app features remain closed. Readers under 18 use protected study: 135 authored English lessons with selected KJV passages, quizzes, memory practice, activities, and deeper discussion questions. The entire Bible catalog is not exposed in this space. Teens can use the discussion questions for more advanced reflection.
Accounts, AI services, freeform input, groups, uploads, cloud synchronization, advertising, purchases, donations, marketing counters, push reminders, automatic external translation, and external-resource navigation are unavailable in protected study. Read aloud uses a voice the browser reports as local and never records the reader. A device may not have a suitable local English voice.
What is saved and why
Lesson IDs, your current lesson, and completion checkmarks stay only in browser storage. They are not sent to an account or included in ordinary study synchronization. Quiz answers are temporary screen state. No birthday, child name, child email, voice recording, location, advertising identifier, or lesson history is stored in the family-control database.
A random browser cookie identifies a separate device-control record containing the selected age range, protected/full mode, optional salted PIN and recovery-code hashes, failed-attempt counters, a parent-session expiry, and creation and expiry times. These records serve access control and security only; they are not linked to an account, used for marketing, or used to build a behavioral profile. Parent setup asks the adult’s age to check that action and immediately discards it after validation.
Optional recovery settings are held in a separate device-bound record, with encrypted adult contact information, question identifiers, salted answer/code hashes, and sending and attempt counters. They expire with the parent-control record and are deleted when a parent deletes that record. Pending email addresses and code hashes are cleared after the ten-minute challenge expires during app requests. Email-delivery providers process the destination address and security message; their own logs and retention must also be reviewed by the operator. The cookie and active controls expire after at most 90 days. An indexed cleanup removes expired records during normal page and family-API requests. If the site receives no requests, physical removal waits for the next request. A parent can delete this device-control record immediately in Age & parent controls, which also clears child lesson progress in this browser. Expiration, deletion, or missing storage never automatically opens the adult app.
Serving web pages still sends connection information, such as an IP address, to the hosting and network providers. Their security logs, backups, retention periods, and contractual use of data are separate from the application’s device-control table. These infrastructure practices must be verified by the operator; this page does not claim that no technical data leaves the device.
Parent controls and corrections
Open Age & parent controls to correct a range selected by mistake. A minor’s saved range, or a range with a PIN already configured, can only be changed using the parent PIN. If no PIN exists for a minor, an adult must complete parent setup first. Keep the PIN and saved recovery code private. While you know the PIN, you may add three private recovery phrases or, when email delivery is enabled, verify your own adult recovery email. Answers are normalized and individually salted and hashed; they are not saved as readable text. An adult recovery email is encrypted, displayed only in masked form, and used for verification and requested recovery messages through Resend when configured. Do not enter a child’s personal information. Email codes expire after 10 minutes, work once, and are limited to this browser. Incorrect recovery attempts and email requests are limited. A reset changes the PIN and backup code without changing the reader’s age or opening adult access. Recovery cannot be set up after a PIN is already forgotten.
A PIN can open a 15-minute parent session without changing the child’s age. Close that session before returning the device. Age changes immediately close any parent session. A parent can also clear local lesson progress without deleting the age range.
These settings belong to this browser and website address. Someone who clears site data or uses another browser or address will encounter age selection again. Use operating-system parental controls as well. A self-declared age or device PIN is not verifiable parental consent to collect children’s personal information. The protected area avoids offering account, sharing, and AI collection features instead.
Privacy questions
Scripture Lens is operated by Levi Ballard. A parent or guardian can contact scripturelensbibleapp@gmail.com about privacy, deletion, or a concern about a lesson. Do not send a child’s personal information unnecessarily. Device records are independent of accounts; the in-app deletion control can remove the current browser’s record without identifying the child.
Account and data deletion requests
Adults can request deletion of their Scripture Lens account and associated data without signing in. Parent-control records are separate; use Age & parent controls to remove the current browser’s record and local lesson progress.
